Subcision is a minor surgical procedure used for the correction of atrophic (depressed) scars; it is mainly used in the treatment of pitted or rolling scars caused by acnes or chickenpox. An atrophic scar is formed when the skin forms an overexpression of fibrous tissue on the injured area, pulling the skin down and causing the area to “sink”. During the subcision procedure, a sterile hypodermic needle is inserted through a puncture in the skin surface to break and release the fibrotic strands that are tethering the scar to the underlying tissue. It produces a “controlled trauma” that triggers new collagen generation, leading to further improvement of the scar. Additional improvement may be achieved by using a hyaluronic acid filler with subcision. In addition, combination therapy with laser resurfacing, such as Fractional CO2 or Pico Laser, will further optimize results. 
With the use of a topical anesthesia on the treatment area, most patients find the subcision procedure very tolerable. The rigorous disinfecting process at VITALAGE helps to minimize risks of infection. Minor redness and/or bruises on the treatment sites will subside within a few days.
