A bibliometric analysis published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology in February of 2023 reviewed medical research from the past 20 years on the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in dermatology, focusing primarily on three key areas: skin rejuvenation, scar treatment, and hair loss therapy*. PRP is derived from the patient's own blood, where platelet-rich plasma containing abundant growth factors is isolated and then injected into the skin. Since the platelet concentrate is extracted from the patient’s own blood, there is no risk of rejection. When PRP is precisely injected into the skin, the concentrated platelets are activated, releasing a wealth of growth factors and cytokines.
